Call for Participants: Amazon Summer School 2016 in Brazil

Location: Amazônia, Brasil.
Date: July 12 – August 1, 2016.
The Amazon Summer school is an intensive immersion course where participants will learn from experienced practitioners, the local community, the forest and each other in order to inspire positive action. Through a collective learning process, the group will build their experience together based on shared purpose, work and values and present a project to solve a real challenge.
The program is sustainability focused and aimed at multi-talented participants who share a passion for sustainability and engagement and want to become part of a global community of thinkers and practitioners in this field.
It will take place in Tumbria community, which is located in the Rio Negro Protected Area of the Brazilian State of Amazonas.
Eligibility:
People from all over the world – between 18 and 30 years old who are interested in learn about community building, sustainable development and amazon nature.
Benefits:

Talent for Governance Training Scholarships for Developing Countries


Deadline: January 29, 2016

Location: Netherlands.
Type: Full Funded.
With Talent for Governance, The Hague Academy aims to enable young civil servants from developing countries and Eastern European (non-EU) countries to participate in a specially designed Talent for Governance programme.
The Programme generally consists out of four components that are all connected by an overall theme: an international practice oriented training course at The Hague Academy, a week-long internship at a Dutch municipality, networking activities and the back home action plan.
Target is young civil servants working for local government in a developing country.
Eligibility:
Application is possible if you:
  • work for a local government (not an NGO or private enterprise);
  • work in one of the countries listed on the DAC country list;
  • be 37 years of age or younger when you apply;
  • have at least two years of work experience in local governance and prove your commitment to
  • work there for at least two years more;
  • speak and understand the English language well (all programmes are in English);
  • be able to write down and orally defend your motivation for and relevance of the specific programme;
  • be able to identify an issue/project as a real life case within the theme of the programme for which you will write a Back Home Action Plan during the Talent programme;
  • have written support of your employer to participate in the programme and to implement the Back Home Action Plan when you return home.
Scholarship Value:
The Talent for Governance programme covers the cost of tuition fee, travel costs, accommodation and living expenses in The Netherlands. The talents are asked to contribute 100-200 Euros to the programme costs depending on the country where they are from.
Application Process
Please do not submit a separate application form for the specific training course of your choice through the website of the Hague Academy for Local Governance. Only applications made through the online application form will be considered. The deadline for applications for the programmes offered in 2016 is 29 January 2016.

Apply For The TechChange Summer Fellowship 2016

TechChange offers a summer fellowship program for recent graduates and rising college juniors and seniors. The fellowship will provide practical training in web development as well as a unique exposure to a range of applications and organizations using technology to tackle a variety of global challenges — from creating prosthetic limbs with a 3D printer to combating malaria with mobile devices.
As a fellow you will spend three months designing and implementing a web development project related to education, technology, and social good. TechChange staff will provide training, mentorship, and a series of events to support you in this process.
Eligibility:
  • Be a current junior, senior, or a recent graduate;
  • Have at least one year of experience in computer science or web development;
  • Possess an interest in international relations, international development, humanitarian work, and social good;
  • Be self-starting and willing to have a little fun too.
Desirable eligibility criteria:
  • Proficiency in Node.js, Django, or PHP;
  • Exposure to Javascript frameworks;
  • Familiarity with Grunt, Gulp, or other build tools;
  • Teaching or curriculum design experience.
Benefits:
  • Training in Javascript, Node.js, PHP, React, Flux, Backbone.js, database management, and more;
  • One-on-one mentorship with TechChange staff;
  • Field trips to organizations working in technology and social change;
  • An event series on a range of topics related to technology and social change;
  • Support with job placement at the conclusion of the fellowship.
Cost:
  • A USD 2,000 monthly stipend for 3 months;
  • A round-trip plane ticket to DC from a location within the US.
